The Gentlest Start to Lifelong Health

Book Online

At Van Every Family Chiropractic Center, we specialize in caring for the tiniest patients, from hours-old newborns to toddlers taking their first steps. The first months of life set the foundation for everything that follows, and our ultra-gentle techniques are built specifically for a baby's developing spine.

Birth is one of the most physically demanding events a body ever goes through, even when everything goes smoothly. Up to 60 to 90 pounds of force can pass through a baby's head and neck during a natural delivery, and C-sections, vacuum or forceps deliveries, prolonged labor, and breech positions each add their own kind of stress. Even in the gentlest birth, that pressure can leave misalignments that affect feeding, sleep, and development.

Signs Worth a Look

Trouble latching or a strong preference for one side, colic and crying that nothing seems to settle, restless sleep, a head that always tilts one direction, reflux and arching during feeds, and slow progress with tummy time, rolling, sitting, or other milestones can all point back to tension in a baby's spine and nervous system. None of these are guaranteed signs of a problem on their own, but together they are worth a look, especially if the delivery involved forceps, vacuum assistance, or a long labor.

Most parents who watch their baby's first adjustment ask the same question afterward: that was it?

What the First Visit Looks Like

We start with a detailed history: pregnancy, birth, feeding, sleep, and whatever is on your mind. From there, a gentle exam checks the spine, reflexes, and nervous system function, often supported by INSiGHT scanning (thermal, HRV, and sEMG) when your baby cooperates, and we walk you through exactly what we find in plain language.

If an adjustment is appropriate, we use Koren Specific Technique (KST) and Talsky Tonal Chiropractic (TTC), extraordinarily gentle, nervous-system focused corrections, often no more pressure than you would use to check a ripe tomato. There is no cracking, no restraint, and the whole thing usually takes seconds. It can happen while your baby is nursing, sleeping, or in your arms.

Timing Matters

Many of our youngest patients come in within days of birth, sometimes hours. The sooner birth-related tension gets addressed, the less time it has to shape how a baby feeds, sleeps, and moves. That said, it is never too late to start: we see babies and toddlers at every stage.

What Parents Often Notice

Better latching, calmer feeds, and longer stretches of sleep are some of the first things parents mention. Reflux and fussiness often ease too, alongside more regular digestion and steadier progress toward rolling, sitting, and other milestones. Parents working through torticollis often notice their baby turning more evenly to both sides as well.

None of it requires your baby to sit still or cooperate. Our doctors are used to working with wiggly, crying babies, and a fed, rested baby right after nursing usually makes for the easiest first visit.

A Team Approach

We work alongside your pediatrician, lactation consultant, and any other providers already involved in your baby's care, sharing what we find and staying coordinated as your baby grows. Most families find this fits naturally into the routine they already have going.

Common questions

  • Absolutely. Our doctors use techniques built specifically for infants, Koren Specific Technique (KST) and Talsky Tonal Chiropractic (TTC), with pressure about the same as checking a ripe tomato. There is no cracking or popping, and babies routinely sleep right through their adjustments.

  • Ideally within the first few days or weeks of life, since the sooner we can address birth-related tension patterns, the better. Other good times to come in include when symptoms or concerns come up, after a fall or bump, and before a big developmental leap. That said, it is never too late to start.

  • Common infant concerns that respond well to gentle care include colic, breastfeeding and latching difficulties, torticollis, reflux and spitting up, restless sleep, constipation, ear infections, and plagiocephaly, also known as flat head syndrome.

  • It depends on your baby. After a detailed history, consultation, and exam, including INSiGHT neurological scanning when your baby cooperates, our doctors build a care plan around what we actually find rather than a one-size-fits-all schedule. Some babies respond quickly, while others do best with regular visits over several weeks, and we adjust the plan as we track their progress.

  • Bring a fed, rested baby when you can. Many parents schedule their appointment right after a feeding. And do not worry if your baby fusses or cries: our doctors work with wiggly babies every day, and it never slows things down.
