Massage Therapy is a wonderful tool
that helps alleviate pain and stress in
bodies
of all ages and types. It is one of the most
effective complimentary treatments used today
to restore our body as a whole.
Massage
Therapy can help alleviate pain due to
soft tissue discomfort associated with
everyday stress, chronic pain, and muscle
overuse.
Massage is a natural, non-invasive
approach to overall wellness and will
help allow
the body to naturally heal itself and
revive.
There are many wonderful benefits
of massage such as:
- Increasing circulation
- Increasing range of motion (ROM)
and joint flexibility
- Decreasing anxiety/stress
- Reducing
muscle spasms
- Increasing endorphin release,
which is our body’s natural painkiller
and “feel-good” hormone
Massage
Therapy can also help improve many conditions
such as:
- Arthritis
- TMJ
- Fibromyalgia
- Repetitive body strains
- Depression
- Chronic Fatigue
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Migraines/headaches
- Discomfort due to
pregnancy/labor
- Carpal Tunnel
- Back discomforts/injuries
- Insomnia
- Neuropathy
Massage Therapy sessions at our office
range from a half hour session up to a
full 2 hour
session. (A half hour appt is not an appropriate
amount of time to address the entire body
it is more part specific ex: upper body tension
therapist will work on back, neck and shoulders.)
A session consists of the therapist discussing
with the client about his/her areas of tension
or concern that they wish to have the therapist
focus on during their massage and then a
plan is created together from there for each
individual client. Every body is different
therefore each session is different due to
the needs of that particular client. You
don’t have to have any specific concerns
or conditions to benefit from a massage.
Many people receive massage therapy to just
simply “get away” from the stresses
of life and to relax and restore the body,
mind, and spirit.
Chiropractic and Massage
Therapy
These two are a terrific pair and
go hand ‘n
hand wonderfully. Chiropractic care helps
keep your body in alignment by manipulating
the bones of our body and helps correct many
conditions and discomforts. Massage therapy
helps by20softening and manipulating the
tissues of the body. Therefore, a massage
can help the body hold adjustments longer.
If the muscles in your body are hypertonic
(tight, tense) then they can fight against
the bones of the body by pulling, therefore
causing your body to go out of alignment
which is the cause of many discomforts and
conditions. So by keeping the tissues of
your body soft and relaxed you help keep
your body healthy and allow your chiropractor
to adjust you easier. Meet our massage therapists.
Commonly Asked Questions
What should I
wear?
Come as you are straight from work or come
in wearing your comfy clothes you lounge
around in. What you’re wearing does
not affect your massage in any way, just
your comfort level when you are finished.
Must I completely undress for my massage?
Most massage sessions are performed with
the client undressed down to their underpants,
but it is entirely up to you and your comfort
level. You will be properly draped/covered
with sheets and a blanket during the entire
session. Only the body part being currently
worked on will be exposed at a time.
How does my massage session begin?
Your therapist will take you to a private
treatment room where soft music will
be playing and the lighting will be dim
and
relaxing.
The therapist will answer any questions
you may have then leave closing the door
behind
her. You will undress down to your comfort
level, get on the heated massage table
underneath a sheet and blanket, cover
up completely
except for your head, and wait for your
therapists knock.
What parts of my body
will be massaged?
You and the therapist
will discuss the desired outcome of your
session. This will
determine which parts of your body require
massage. A typical full body session will
include work on your back, arms, legs,
feet, hands, head neck and shoulders.
Will
the massage hurt?
Each person/body is tolerable of different
types of pressure. Therefore your therapist
will ask you what you prefer, and check
with you during your session to see if
you feel the depth of pressure is appropriate
for your comfort level. You want to be
experiencing a sense of relief from tensi
on and be able to relax and enjoy your
massage. The decision is up to you just
make sure you communicate with your therapist.
It doesn’t have to “hurt” to
be effective.
For a few days after a massage you may
feel that your muscles are sore, like
after a workout. This is totally normal
and is your body’s way of getting
rid of toxins and repairing itself.
What can I expect for my first session?
For your first session you should arrive
approximately 10 minutes early giving
you time to fill out an intake that
has a variety of questions about your
job,
activities, family and personal history
of disease, accidents, and surgeries
to help the therapist understand what
plan is best for you. It may seem excessive
but all of these answers lead to clues
that help in your recovery plan and
ease your discomfort. Knowledge is key.
How
will I feel after my session?
Most people
feel very relaxed. Some experience relief
from long-term aches and pains developed
from tension or repetitive activity. People
often experience increased energy, heightened
awareness, and greater productivity, which
can last for days. It is recommended that
you drink plenty of water following your
massage.
Should I tip?
Gratuity is up to each individual. Most
clients do tip a therapist after receiving
a massage. Tipping is not required
but appreciated. The average tip is usually
20% of the cost of a session.
